Compiled by Customs Inform,
Atlantic Salmon Imports to Russia Jan – Oct 2014 provides a ranking of Russia's
top 60 Atlantic salmon importers, and of the top exporters, for the period.
The data reveals Russia’s salmon imports took a heavy blow in August 2014 as a result of the country's import ban, halving from the previous month.
However, imports then recovered to nearly pre-ban levels thanks to a huge spike in imports from the Faroe Islands and Chile in September.
The increase is spectacular — the Faroes’ exports to Russia rose more than ten-fold in September, while the increase from Chile is two to three fold.
This trend then continued in October -- that month saw Chilean exports more than double over September, a 376% increase year-on-year, while Faroese exports were somewhat above from the September volumes.
Another interesting increase is that from Iceland, which has upped its volumes to Russia ten-fold from August to October. At just a few hundred tons, however, the exports remain minimal.
Despite the strong volumes from the Faroes and Iceland, Russia's imports for the first ten months of the year are down by nearly 25% compared to the same period last year. This drop is not just due to the ban, however.
